Off to the Races Birthday

Coming off of last year’s spectacular Golden Birthday and a crazy spring season of running (figuratively and literally), birthday planning sorta snuck up on us. But it was alright, Jackson’s love of cars and racing fueled his inspiration and he chose to go with a Racing theme.
Speedway Party Details

Jackson got in on the designing of his invitation this year. With a few small tweaks from his mom, we sent it off to the three friends he wanted to invite.

Ellie was kind enough to make this year’s cup cakes. She followed Jackson’s lead and kept it simple with a double chocolate cake topped with our favorite homemade frosting and rainbow sprinkles. We worked fast like a pit crew to toss out a checkered flag table cover and put up the checkered flag pennants that I saved from his Cars 3 Birthday. High five to the Mom that hangs on to a few things!
And We’re Off to the Races!

One thing Jackson wanted to do was to race the go carts at Flags & Wheels. This is something he and Brian have done a number of times but it was a first for the boys he invited. It was fun watching them zoom around thinking they were the fastest and won the race. They also did a little virtual racing in the arcade.

Since we had not yet taken Jackson to the dirt track to watch the races, and because we had his party on a Friday, we decided to take everyone to the Black Hills Speedway. It worked out perfectly as neither of his friends had been there yet and it was ‘Pack the Stands’ which meant free admission with a few donations for the humane society.
Two Parties Drive Us Crazy

Ellie was noticeably missing from the go-kart and dirt track races this time around, but for good reason — she’s officially upgraded to the real deal. With her driver’s license in hand, she opted for a day of cruising in an actual car and spending time with friends instead of getting behind the wheel of a tiny track racer. The next day, she was back in action in her own way — hopping on dirt bikes with a friend who had never ridden before, helping her learn the ropes and trading laps for laughs on the trail, thanks to an awesome dad who took care of the party details out there.
