Track Season Spring 2025

The new year started and then the next thing we knew it was Track season! Ellie decided to give it a go on the High School team this year and we couldn’t be more proud to watch her run for another season. Once we blocked out the 9-week calendar we knew it was going to be a fast paced spring. The weather threw the team a few meet reschedules but overall it was a blessing to be able to cheer her on every chance we could.

It was a bit of a rollercoaster there at the end with Ellie going to state, then not going, then squeezing in at what seemed to be the last, last minute. The girls 4x100m team, with Ellie running the second leg, got their PR at the BH Conference and were seated at 22nd out of 24. It appeared that Ellie would be running at state but then she got to practice the next Monday and based on times, she was moved to the alternate on the team for the Last Chance Meet. Once all of the Last Chance Meet results were in for Class A, their team had dropped to 25th out of the top 24 that go to state.

At this point Ellie had handled defeat and was ready to get on with summer. We even bought blue hair die. But….coaches still have to enter the teams, which her coach did, even sitting at 25, with the next to near chance that another team wouldn’t enter. And you can guess what happened, someone didn’t enter and RCCS Girls 4x100m team was the 24th team in the entries at state. Ellie was so excited to be able to enjoy the State Track experience again, even if she was just the Alternate.

And then…….it turns out that the anchor of the 4×100 qualified for two relays and could only be in one. She chose to run in the 1600m Medley relay which meant Ellie was in, back at the second leg of the 4×100, and slated to run at state. So we loaded up, drove over, watched her run, then came home the next day for Jackson’s last soccer game……whewwww. The Girls 4×100 team were nervous heading out. They ran a great race, and even though they didn’t improve on their time, they moved up to 20th overall.

As many ups and downs this season gave us, we are so blessed to have two healthy kiddos and the means to be their biggest fans with flexible schedules to be able to change our plans as their’s do. The jury is still out on weather Ellie will run track next year or not. Either way, we’ll be watching what ever she does and ready to squeeze in an embarrassing selfie!
