The Buzz About Spelling

We didn’t know about it, but right before Christmas, Jackson’s 1st Grade class did a classroom spelling bee to determine who would move on to the school wide 1st and 2nd grade spelling bee after the start of the new year. They took the top three from each class, plus an alternative and Jackson was 2nd in his class. We were happy for him but also pretty relaxed about studying the 10 pages of word lists sent home over the holiday break.

I am kicking myself for not taking the big camera….I’ve gotten so out of the habit of doing so, and will need to remember for future school functions. I also didn’t get a good picture of him in his glory, but here is the short videos that I did catch of the three rounds he was in.

We were so proud of him, not only that he made it into the spelling bee, but how he reacted when he made a mistake. School has helped him tremendously in building his character, even though at home he tries to put on a show for mom when he is sad, upset or hurt.

I was just smiling from ear to ear watching these kids the whole time. I had never seen a spelling bee before and it brought me such joy to know that Calvary Christian has spelling in their curriculum. It helped us trust that our kiddos are in the right schools.
