We Ride Again!

As our 15 year anniversary rolled around (pun totally intended) we were thinking of ways to spend the week. When we were driving to Tucson earlier this year, we had taken a blank calendar with the idea that we would have great intentions on filling it up so no weekend was left alone this summer. And that is what we did, resulting in three 10-day blocks of time away for a big camp or something. It happened that the 10 days in July landed over the 4th and our anniversary on the 7th. When it got closer we decided to go camping with some friends over the weekend of the 4th and then send the kids off to Grandma Camp and we would rekindle our love for the open road on two wheels.

There weren’t any roads we’ve never been on, and it was only a three day trip, but it was very enjoyable. Brian booked us two nights in a hotel in Buffalo, Wyoming so we had a little bit of a destination but no set schedule or timeline to stick to. We didn’t even leave early due to some rain and a little bit of work. Once we got moving we road every canyon we could think of between here and Wyoming. What should have only taken us three hours to get to Buffalo took us eight. It was a great ride.

After a great meal and night of sleep (plus a stop at the quilt shop) we set out up and over the mountain. There was quite a bit of construction so we were not making any land speed records and by the time we got to Ten Sleep we just thought we would head north for Greybull and back over through Sheridan. We ran into a few sprinkles on top and had a couple little turkeys cross our path going through Story but over all it was a fantastic trip.

We just love to get a way and reflect on our marriage. We both talked about how much has changed in 15 years and how it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. We have had countless blessings that we are extremely thankful for and a few moments of sorrow, for which we are also thankful fo. Then the conversation turned to the next 15 year and how different things will be then, also coming with many joys and a few more sorrows. Through it all, we have been and will continue to be together, truly enjoying the ride of our lives.

The New Side of Riding

After we returned from The Big Horn’s we had an extra day and thought it would be fun to try some dirt bike trails that are not particularly kid friendly. I hadn’t ever really ‘dirt-biked’ as I am usually following everyone on the 4-wheeler, so these skinny dirt bike only trails were quite the adventure.

At one point I went to put my foot down but there was nothing to put it down on and next thing I knew I was upside down next to a log half way down the hill. And when we were headed back, I looked back to see Brian crawling up the hill to get back on. It was a fun new adventure that I think we will want to try again — just the two of us.
