Lego Brick-Day Party

When it came time for Jackson to think of the birthday party theme this year he was all about taking his friends to Lego Land. Since that didn’t seem like something that was in our budget, we settled for the next best thing and booked a party at the Lego store in our mall. They have a great little area for parties where guests get to build and race Lego cars, make a Lego town on the Lego table, or try and construct their name on the giant Lego wall — all this while being able to watch something Lego on the big screen. When the party was over, everyone was able to browse through the mini figure bins and build their own mini figurine to take home.

Sadly, the limiting factor was how many guests could attend and we literally ran out of weekends in June. So we planned the party on the day of their birthday, which happened to be a Monday this year and just invited friends in hopes that we would could celebrate with family when we saw them next.  Even with this tiny scheduling conflict, both Jackson and Ellie enjoyed their Lego Party with their friends.

Everything is Awesome in the Details

It all usually starts with the invitations. Jackson was by my side scouring Pinterest for what he thought he wanted the invites to look like. A few searches and a Lego type font later and we were in business. Sadly, however, because we built it to look like a Lego box, their ages were confused to be the date of the party.

Next we worked on the plan for the cake — well the kids did. After a week of having two oversized Lego tubs spilled out on to our living room floor they were able to find enough Legos to build a cake tower. You’ll see we had to be creative and use all of the windows and doors that we could get our hands on, but it worked. Jackson chose chocolate cakes that we topped with molded brick candy melts and colored sprinkles. When it came time to frost the cakes he wanted to add sprinkles under the frosting to surprises everyone. The kids also got to build their cake toppers and pick which mini figure would hold their candle.

All the doors and windows we could find went into the cupcake tower.

Because the store was already bursting with Lego not much needed to be made. They provided the brick banner, plates, and napkins, so that left us with the cupcakes, drinks and additional party favors. It was a welcomed change to feeling the need to make everything.

These two keep growing up so fast. Ellie has about five inches to go to be as tall as her mom and Jackson is only a head behind her. It has been a true joy watching them become such good friends during our year of home school. We have so much to be thankful for.
