First Day of School 2020

This year, starting school or not starting school, seemed like a bit of a rollercoaster ride. They have been home with us since March so I think we all were welcoming the idea of going back to school, having the kids be with their friends, and figuring out what a new work schedule would look like with both kids at school all week. But this year…

First Day of Fifth Grade

Pulling together a stylish look for the first day.

This girl has been talking about Jr. High for a few years now, and even though she’s only going into 5th grade, this is not quite how I imagined her last year of grade school would go. Since being home together so much, her pure personality has come through. She is kind and loving, enjoys dressing up and she is super creative. In making the decision for school this year, she surprised us by voicing her opinion of what she liked and didn’t like. And through it all she has been observing people and how their personalities and choices effect her. As we go forward with our days, the plan is to soak up as much little that still remains in our girl, yet encouraging her to become the young lady she is meant to be.

First Day of Kindergarten

Jackson is dressing for a great first day of Kindergarten.

Oh man, was this kid ready for kindergarten or what?

Meet the Teachers

New teachers reporting for duty.

Yep, that’s right, we took the distance option offered by our school district. Out of all of the options and the changes in options, and phases of plans with masks or no masks, or 50% capacity and e-learning days, when it came time to choose, we felt it was best to keep the kids home for at least the first trimester. So we piked up our school issued computers and prepared for another week of summer break because the district wasn’t quite ready for teaching at a distance. Turns out that even though we have taught our children since the day they were born, Brian and I are first time teachers aiming to put quite a few miles in our distance learning option. It will be an adventure to say the least.

First Day of Bickett Academy

To say the least it was not at all like a first day of school anywhere. I had big plans for lessons in physics at the miniature golf course and counting money at the candy store, but the weather turned for the worse so we improvised. We had donuts for breakfast. Prepared in our best first day of school outfits for the pictures, then promptly changed into garage clothes, tried logging on to the schools system, went out to lunch for some chips and salsa, and tried to get a little work done. We’re not certain how the weeks will unfold but we do know that we are both meant to grow with all of the challenges through this change. Just hope the kids still like us when we are done…..
