Camp Red Lodge 2019
It was about that time to think where we would be camping over the Fourth of July. Since we missed Big Camp Big Horns last summer, and we already had our Big Camp planed for Utah later this summer, we thought we would find our recluse in the Big Horns for this shorter trip. But we didn’t make any reservations and the word on the street was that the mosquitos were awful. So after being eaten alive on our first night in Sheridan, we kept on trucking up and over the mountain and landed in the last open spot, right under a mountain glacier in a National Forest Campground just west of Red Lodge, Montana.

The campground we found an open spot in was called Limber Pine. It was close to a few other camps and at the end of another, Greenough Lake Campground, was a great trailhead to a pretty easy hike through some dense forest and an open valley to Greenough Lake. It was so beautiful and the mountain seem to be so much BIGGER than the Big Horns. We truly felt bless to be in such a wonderful spot over the Fourth of July.

After our hike and some lunch, we decided to take a drive up Beartooth Pass. It has been a long time since we rode our bikes around those hairpins but it was still as beautiful as ever. We stoped at the top to take some pics and not feed the wildlife. Not certain if the kids appreciated it much but we sure did.

We decided we had better make it a two day trip instead of one really long pull for home, so we headed south out of Red Lodge, TP’d a friends front yard in Greybull and thought we would give the Big Horns a second chance. We found a spot at the campground right to the north of Meadowlark Lake and then we mostly stayed in the camper because everyone was right — the mosquitos were horrible.
