Putting the ART in pARTy!
Since it was her year to pick, Ellie was on top of things (she’s my girl) and long about April announced that she wanted an ART party for their birthday this year. Her party vision included easels, canvases, paint, brushes and smocks. The big question was where do you find all of that. Turns out your local art gallery might have a space to rent with all the supplies and they even throw in an instructor to teach and clean up.
The technique Ellie picked out to paint was to put masking tape down on their boards, then paint over it and lift the tape once the paint was dry to leave white lines and abstract shapes on the canvas. All of the kids had a great time painting.
It’s all in the brush strokes
After giving Ellie access to Pinterest she soon narrowed down the look she wanted for the invites. She wanted to make them look like artist pallets with blobs of paint. There was quite the production line in the office but she had fun finger painting each color on all of the invites.
In our initial research of the Art Party Theme, we came across this super cool paint splatter dress that Ellie fell in love with right away. Of course Amazon didn’t have a toddler shirt with paint splatters so I made Jacksons shirt out of an adult shirt.
Turns out, since we booked the studio with all of the supplies and an art instructor to teach the kids to paint, there wasn’t much left to do except add a few decorations and bring a snack. I made a birthday banner along with some boards that had their names and years painted in each of their favorite colors.
From our Pinterest browsing, Ellie decided that instead of multi-colored cupcakes on an artist pallet she would rather have a giant cookie, so giant cookies we made. Which were not as easy as one would think. TIP: they take much longer to bake than little cookies. I also couldn’t help but make sure that we had some “creative juices” to go with the cookie.
To go along with their fantastic paintings from the day, we handed out bags of Skittles to say thanks for coming.

Oh my goodness. It seems like both Ellie and Jackson have changed so much in this last year. At times they are best of friends and other times they are the worst of enemies, just the way a brother and sister should be. We continue to count our blessings everyday and are so thankful to our friends and family who helped Ellie and Jackson celebrate another colorful birthday.
