Lost In Wonderland
Back in December Ellie was faced with a decision. Her swim instructors said she would be ready for competitive swimming but then she was also dancing around the house quite a bit. So it was either swim team or dance class and she chose to give her sea legs a rest and try dance once more.
So after a short five months of a ballet/modern mix class, it was time to get geared up for recital. It was fun to find out that they would be doing an Alice and Wonderland production since it was the same as what she was in only a short four years ago when she first tried ballet. We quickly remembered everything that is involved in being dance parents as we watched Ellie twirl circles around the living room and try to teach her little brother the ballet positions.
In this production, Ellie’s class was in two dances. The first, a ballet dance with the sparkly blue tutus that was titled “River of Tears”, where the girls were the tears that Alice cried after she fell down the Rabbit’s hole.
The second dance was titled “The Caterpillar” and was a lot of fun for Ellie. She had a grin on her face from ear to ear for the whole dance. It was super cute to see all of the girls in their shinny green leotards and fuzzy leg warmers become the parts of the caterpillar.
The whole show was quite the production over all. It was so fun to watch how the story was told through a number of different dance styles and musical theater pieces. Ellie had a great time dancing with her good friend Olivia and she just admires and looks up to our friend Hannah who was in a number of the dances. I was even asked to help alter a couple of the costumes and I can easily see how dance could become our new normal.
Our conversations have already been questioning what Ellie wants to do next year. Her thoughts are between dance and swimming with the random idea of tennis. It is a real joy seeing her explore her interests and we pray that she continues to grow in magnificent ways.
