May I Have This Dance

It warmed my heart when Brian asked if I thought it would be a good idea for him to take Ellie to a Father/Daughter dance that he had found online somehow. Of course, in our parenting fashion, we didn’t tell her until that day. We like to keep things as surprises here.

Once we did tell her that afternoon, she was so excited and knew that she had the perfect dress in her closet for a dance. As the mother of a girl going off to a dance I knew I had to help make it a special day for her even before she stepped foot on the dance floor.

So naturally we started with hair and nails. We dug out the hot rollers from the depths of the unknown and got busy putting curlers in her hair. While they were setting, she picked a nice shade of nail polish to match her dress and we gave her nails and toes a coat. She even was allowed to wear a fancy necklace of mine and a little bit of lip gloss for the night. She was one excited little girl. And then Brian surprised us all when he walked out in his suit.

She came home with wonderful stories from the night including dancing to the YMCA. They had a nice meal, a professional photographer who took the shot in the Under the Sea themed backdrop above, they danced and they played fun games. It was truly a special night for them.

And back at home, what is a boy and a mom gonna do? We rode our bikes then ate pizza and drank root beers while watching motorcross on tv. Girls will be girls and boys will be boys.

They say that a girls first love of her life is her father. It rings true in our house for sure. I am so glad that Brian and Ellie have, and always will have, that special father/daughter relationship and that he makes these special moments for her that she will forever remember.
