It Was There & Now Its Gone!

Well, we knew this day was coming ever since her friends were losing teeth left and right at school. It seemed like every day since this fall that she would come home and announce proudly that she had a loose tooth while trying her best to wiggle a tooth. But all of her friends are 6-ish and there was no movement from any teeth, so we thought we had some time. That was until she decided to hold her lunchbox with her teeth as she was getting ready to leave school for the day which was all the convincing that little bottom tooth needed.

That was about a week ago and last night Ellie thought it was time she should lose a tooth. So with mom gone to a meeting and dad busy in the kitchen, she took matters into her own hands — quite literally — and with a few strong wiggles, it popped right out. It took a few rinses to get the bleeding to stop but she was very excited to see her new smile in the mirror and feel it with her tongue.

Even though we knew this day was right around the corner with the obviously wiggly tooth poking back and forth, we didn’t think she would go for yanking it out and thus, weren’t prepared. We didn’t even know how to contact the tooth fairy to make sure we had a visit from one scheduled that night. But I guess that they just somehow know because Ellie found this sweet little envelope under her pillow this morning with a nice letter and gift inside.

Ironically, the tooth that just came out was her first baby tooth that came in when she was only six months old. Can’t remember those days? Us either! Below are a couple of pictures that I found from when she was just getting her baby teeth. It is these little firsts scattered in between that remind us that it all goes too fast.
