Our First Broken Bone

It was just another Labor Day weekend in Sioux Falls with the Bickett families. We were just out enjoying the sun and having fun on the lake and the next thing we knew we were waiting at the doctors office for some xrays.

 How it all happened:

She was crying after coming to the surface which we thought meant that she was scared, having never flipped on the tube before. But as she went to pull herself into the boat, she had a look of pain on her little face and just couldn’t pull herself up.

After getting her dried off, dressed, and warmed up we decided that we should head into the Urgent Care to have it looked at. I never imagined that the doc would come in and show us a fractured collar bone, but sure enough, there it was. It turns out that fracturing your collar bone at a young age is fairly common and heals pretty quickly. There wasn’t much that needed to be done at that point, other than minimizing the use for a few weeks.

So she was sent on her way in a child’s size sling, which she had to wear for two weeks. The first few days were pretty sore for her but we soon had to remind her not to use her left arm. We are pretty lucky our first broken bone as parents was fairly minor but we continue to say our prayers of thanks that it wasn’t any worse.
