Big Camp Rocky 2015

Screen Shot 2015-08-03 at 6.13.20 PMWith our first, first days of school looming in the near distance we felt our days of summer were numbered and that we had better get out of town for our week long camping trip before our calendar was all booked up and summer passed us by.

This year we had decided to see what the state of Colorado had to offer. With only a weeks notice, we were able to find a campground for the week in Estes Park – not really knowing what to expect. Little did we know, we were pretty lucky to find a spot to camp during the peak of the tourist season in a place where there is literally only 6-8 weeks of no snow.

We chose Estes Park because it is right outside of the Rocky Mountain National Park so that is where most of our day trips took us. We would drive around the park during nap time and take in all the beauty the Rockies have to offer. When we weren’t in the truck, we were able to get out and experience the cool mountain airs and snap a few pictures of the wildlife in the park or picnic and play at a park.

Since we were traveling with little hikers we didn’t go off the beaten path too much. We did however, find a few trails to walk along that fit our nature exploring needs. Ellie was also able to take a short class from a Park Ranger and earn her  Junior Ranger badge.

We also headed on in to the town of Estes Park a couple of times. There were a few places on our list of things to do there such as to visit the taffy shop, the pizza place, the ice cream shop and of course we had to try out their best Mexican restaurant for some tacos. Our favorite find in Estes was by far their Downtown Riverwalk.

Even though it seemed like a spur of the moment kind of a trip, it was was wonderful to experience and see new places. We thought it might be fun to come back when we could really pack up for a long day hike. Until then we enjoyed making memories in the Rockies.
