The BIG Birthday Bash

13With the last days of preschool fading away and as June quickly approached there was much anticipation for the BIG birthday that was right around the corner. It is really hard to believe that a whole year has gone by already.

There has been many times that we would find ourselves thinking how crazy it is that we have two children who were born on the exact same date — only four years apart — which quickly reminds us that it wasn’t our plan at all.

For the sake of some sanity, and well, because they were born on the same day, we decided on a joint birthday and dubbed it our BIG Bickett Birthday Bash. It worked out pretty well as we did Jackson’s presents and cake first, then served lunch followed by Ellie’s cake, presents and her piñata.

The Details

To keep it neutral we saved all themes and characters for future parties and just kept it simple with BIG bold colors to help celebrate the BIG occasion. Ellie will forever refer to it as her “circle party”.

I’ll be the first to admit that something had to give this year so the cakes were nothing special, just chocolate and white cake — right from the box. I did however top them with the same homemade frosting recipe we’ve used since Ellie’s first birthday. And as much as Ellie would have loved me to make her a new dress, she had quite a few new ones to choose between from our recent trip to Arizona.

All Ellie really wanted was to make a “p-yatta” for the party so we added layer upon layer of paper mache while it was raining outside. We were able to make a pretty tough piñata that matched the party colors. After all of the little kiddos had two rounds of swings, it was finally Coulter who was able to get it to break open.

We couldn’t be happier to have this wonderful yet crazy event every year, on the exact same date, to remind us that God’s plans for us are grater than we could ever plan ourselves. We are truly blessed with two beautiful children and are completely grateful for the friends and family who continue to help us celebrate their lives in BIG ways.
