A Camping We Will Go – 3 Weekends in a Row
It wasn’t too long after Jackson was born that we were itching to get out of the house and go camping. So that is what we did, three weekends in a row.
Camp on Road 460
This was our first trial with a baby and since we are still looking for our sweet spot in the hills where we can just pull up and dry camp we took a drive around a few roads and came upon number 460 located somewhere behind Mt. Rushmore. We thought we had finally found the spot that we would frequent year after year as it was close to home and didn’t have cow pies. The only downside about road 460 is that it is quite a climb up to get to the spot and it was pretty tough pulling the camper up there. But we did it for this weekend and were able to enjoy a little hiking along with some flower picking all the while not worrying if our infant’s cries or generator would bother anyone else.
Because it was a hot weekend we decided to pull off and take a dip in the creek on the way home. It was moving pretty fast so Brian was sure to hang on to Ellie as she jumped in. Then they found some crayfish which Brian thought he could catch. Turns out they are fast little buggers and they made him jump when they moved. Jackson was one happy babe just lounging in the shade by the creek.

Camp Reuter
Since we all did so well as a family of four camping we decided to rally the family and hit Reuter Campground just north of Sundance. It was a pretty relaxing weekend that included face tattoos, map reading, wood splitting and of course some camp fire watching.

Surprise! Gulch
We told Ellie that we were going to go camping again and it was a surprise – which was no lie because we pulled the camper to the area where Brian drew an elk tag in Wyoming so he could scout the elk activity and we parked our camper on Surprise Gulch. We even went and grabbed Grandma Mary’s 4-wheelers to aid in the scouting. The real surprise was that we had a some friends who were new to camping join us. It was the Baker’s first 2-night camping experience. Aside from being just down the draw from a rotting carcass and a few dried up cow pies, we all had a wonderful time.
