Jackson Timothy Bickett
Born on June 14, 2014 at 5:56 am, Weight: 6 lbs, 11.8 oz., Length: 19 in
It was 4:00pm Friday the 13th with a full moon expected when we headed in to the hospital, ready to finally meet our second child for the first time. From what we had heard about second pregnancies, we thought for sure our delivery would progress fast and that this baby would be born that night before the clock struck midnight the day of Ellie’s birthday.
We are very thankful that our labor and delivery experience was once again nothing but great and accommodating, leaving us amazed by the efforts of the nurses, doctors and hospital staff — it was just a tad slower than we anticipated. It turned out that this babe just wanted to be born on the same day of the month of June as our first child. And so Jackson Timothy was born 3 years, 11 months, 30 days, 9 hours, and 14 minutes after his older sister, Ellie.
It’s a Baby Brother!
As you can see from the smile on her face, Ellie is pretty excited to be a big sister. She wasn’t even upset that it wasn’t a girl nor that we didn’t name the baby Lucy, which were her favorites. After bringing Jackson home, it has amazed us at how much she has grown up, almost in a matter of days and we now know that we need to soak up every minute of this little guy every chance we can. Ellie already has plans to be a big help with Jackson and has a heart full of love for him already.
What’s in a Name
When Ellie was born in 2010, we had gone to the hospital with four names and Jackson Timothy was our top pick should she have been born a boy. I’m not quite certain where Jackson came from other than we just liked it but we knew for certain we wanted to pass along Brian’s fathers name as the middle name, just as his parents had passed along his paternal grandfather’s name, Robert, as his middle name. Again we went in with four names — two of each — and Jackson Timothy was at the top of the list.
Did you Know?
Because of the 20 week envelope story, we have been asked quite a bit since he was born if we actually knew we were going to have a boy. Apparently we were using he and him more than her, she or it. Perhaps we both secretly were pulling for a boy and that intuition slipped out a few times. But rest assured, even as we went back and forth on names at the end, and now that all is said and done, the envelope is still sealed shut waiting to be opened.
Meanwhile, Back at the House
Since my water broke we knew for sure that it was time to call in the troops. Grandma Nancy and Aunt Jessica were well on their way by the time we got settled in our delivery room. Ellie was excited that she got to camp out with Coulter. When she woke early as usual the next day the first thing out of her mouth was “where are my party decorations” — we had been working on them for a while now and she knew that tomorrow was her party. Of course we had to postpone the event but I was told that all day long she continued to ask when her friends were coming for her party. Aunt Jessica, Grandma Nancy and Grandma Mary made sure she had a bit of a party by decorating a few cupcakes and opening the presents she had so far. Brian finally made his way home to give her a birthday squeeze and explain that she was now a big sister which seemed to make things better when she knew that her baby brother was coming home the next day and we would still have her friends over to slip-n-slide when the weather was warmer.
Thank you to Super Grandma!
Grandma Nancy stayed a few extra days and was a huge help in caring for Ellie while we tended to Jackson’s needs. They stayed busy playing outside, tending the flowers, going to the park and eating watermelon. She even let the Grandma Ardy in her come out by cooking us meals as well as breaking out the Windex and vacuum before she went back home — everything we are so grateful for.
Who does he look like?
We were asked by nurses if he looked anything like Ellie when she was born and our first response was no, nothing like her. It could have been the dark head of hair that was throwing us off because the more we would gaze at him we found the same nose and then after comparing their pictures side by side one might think that they could almost be twins. I still see some Evenson/Engelhard in him but maybe with a tad bit more Bickett than Ellie had. I’m sure his features will change as he grows but it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
What can we say, other than we did it again, only four years later. Yes, we are still a bit in shock that both of our children share the same birthday but it will be awesome to see how they react to that fact as they grow together. And yes, I am already contemplating how to celebrate two birthdays at the same time.
It hasn’t been quite a week since Jackson Timothy was born and our house has already begun to adapt to a family of four. Brian is getting plenty of rest at night which makes a huge impact in the calmness of our days. To say the least we are very excited about our little guy and we both agree that he was well worth the wait. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support and well wishes.
Below are some of the pictures that we have taken so far of our little guy. Please feel free to leave your comments for Jackson below. Someday he will be able to look back on them and truly feel blessed with all of the love that surrounds him.
