Ellie’s First Dance Recital
Since Ellie was quite the twirler last fall we decided to let her try ballerina class which she has been going to since last September. We let her decide if she wanted to participate in the “ballerina show” this spring, and of course at the first mention of a costume, she said yes right away. Little did we know, as first time dance parents, how involved a dance recital can be with changes in practice times, rehearsals, costumes, makeup, pictures, tickets and show times.
But, as parents, when you see this smile and all of her excitement, we knew it was all worth it.
She was a part of a skit titled “Bedtime Stories – Alice in Wonderland”. The little girls took the part of the Queen of Heart’s Card Soldiers that were painting the roses red. The other dance characters in the skit included Alice, White Rabbit, Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat, and Mad Hatter.
The rest of the production included three additional Bedtime Stories: The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast. It was great to see how such stories are interpreted into dances and costumes. We are not certain if Ellie will be in dance again next fall as she says she likes swimming more than dance at the moment, but we will give her the opportunity again if she would like to.
