Lefse Making 2013

lefse2013-02October had passed and the days went on well in to November before we decided that it is a must that we gather and share our family tradition of making lefse. It was unfortunate that none of us had fresh lefse for Thanksgiving but we were able to gather the weekend after and made sure that we all had some for Christmas.

Almost all of us bombarded a huge table as we ate out the night before. A few of us were wise and went home to prepare for the strenuous day of rolling and flipping that lay before us. Others, however, felt the need for some merriment and proceeded to celebrate in a way that only cousins seem to know how to do.

Three batches yields 18 dozen – 2 dozen for each.

lefse2013-09 Needless to say our 8:00 am rolling start clock was a little delayed and we were all surprised when Dale was the second person to show up before 9:00 am. Since four batches seemed to take quite a long time to roll last year we took Darcy’s advice and went with one batch per griddle and rolling team. So we settle back down to three batches, which was good because we were a slow rolling group this year and still didn’t finish until later in the afternoon.

Just as always, much food and fond memories were shared and every year we continue the tradition we are creating new memories.
