Roarin’ Back to Arizona

Summer was sadly coming to an end up here when I got a call from a very excited Auntie Sherri who just discovered that Lion King on Broadway was coming. Her biggest concern wasn’t if we could come down again this year, but if Ellie could sit through the 2 hour plus show. Needless to say I booked our second trip for the year the following week, whipped up a dress for Ellie and greatly anticipated the “Lion King Show” with a side of warm Arizona sunshine, especially after already being snowed in once this fall.

The show was nothing but AMAZING. Ellie was at the edge of her seat the whole time and I just wanted to get up on stage and examine the costumes closer. Ellie loved the dancers and Zazu, Sherri just loved the whole show and my favorite were the giraffes and Pumba. We would highly recommend taking in this show and are so, so grateful for the wonderful gift from Aunt Sherri to do so. We all left singing Hakuna Matata and it was a memory that will be cherished forever.

A Peek at the Performance

Being all dressed up we just had to have a fancy dinner at PF Chang’s after the show. Even before we left the house we were thinking of their tasty chicken lettuce wraps and delicious meals. Ellie was able to give the learning chop sticks a go and did really well with them, even when it came to the rice.

Ellie's first chop sticks use was quite the success. She thought it was fun.

The Rest of the Week

Since we were going for the show anyways, we decided to make the most of our visit and stayed the whole week.  We were able to do a little shopping, quite a bit of eating and snacking, took a few naps and went swimming for hours on end. It was a very relaxing week.

Trip Highlights

  • Shoe Fishing — Before the show Aunt Sherri thought Ellie needed a new pair of shoes to go with her “Lion King dress” that I made her and Ellie thought we were going shoe fishing.
  • The Lion King Show — of course!
  • Green Chili Stew — one of my favorites that no one else in our house really appreciates as much as I do, and one that I can’t seem to make like Sherri does. It was so good that I ate it all week.
  • Circle Meat & Maple Nut — a few of Sherri’s favorites that we surprised her with; Cloverdale Tangy meat and I had the Schwan’s guy deliver some Maple Nut ice cream while she was at work.
  • Swimming All Day — Ellie just enjoyed heading to the pool. I think there were a couple of days that we just stayed in our swim suits until we went to bed.
  • Coyote in the Park — one of the mornings we saw a coyote stroll right across the street and then it jumped the wall before I could get my camera out.
  • Catching Up with Family & Friends — I was able to sneak out one evening to grab a bite to eat with some old girl friends that I worked with when I lived down there and my Great Aunt Myra and Uncle Lyle (so Ellie’s Great-Great) stopped by to see us before we left. Hopefully next time we will be able to visit with other friends and family.
