Disconnected in the Big Horns
After giving a two-week workamping trip to Idaho a try last year, we thought we would just take a week off and go camping this year — no work, just camping. Little did we know that we hit the jackpot by picking the Wyoming Big Horn Mountains as our destination — a place, as Wyoming natives, we were all too familiar with, but never really knew.It was fantastic! The minute we got up the mountain our phones lost service and we were disconnected — no calls, texts, emails, facebook — just us three out in the woods, with sticks, dirt and rocks to play with and the squirrels to keep us company. We did a lot of hiking and a little swimming. The coolest part was that, even though there was a fire ban in the national forest, you could still have camp fires in the campgrounds — so we enjoyed “marshmallow fires” (translates to s’mores) every night for desert. It was so relaxing and wonderful to have nothing else to do but reconnect with each other.
We also decided to drop down over to Cody, Wyoming to catch the Cody Night Rodeo — which Ellie LOVED! She was a little concerned about the animals being roped but was fascinated by the show and the horses — and all of the “coyboy horsies” (translates to cowboy hats).
We were so grateful for finding such a great place to get away from it all, yet still be relatively close to home, and we are certain that future camping trips to the Big Horns will be planned in the future.
