Flight of the Phoenix
This year’s trip to the Valley of the Sun was quite different, but also much of the same.Of course it was tough to land at the airport knowing I would never be able to see my Grandfather Al’s smiling face under the desert sun, but it was great to visit the many memories I have of him when I lived there and visited.
The trip also included much needed TLC on his house that is now my Aunt Sherri’s new home, a fantastic lunch with my Great Aunt Carol and Uncle Raymond and cousin Ann and her two girls, an awesome dinner with old friends Joel and C-Dogg, a pit stop at Julio-G’s for a spinach con queso covered burro, and last but not least we finished the trip with a day of maternity shopping and a day taking a drive to Canyon Lake.
Leaving was bitter sweet as I knew I would never return as the same person ever again. But I look forward to the changes ahead and the time when I will get to share new memories of my favorite place with my family.
