Motorcycle Trip to Glacier National Park
We had a rough time getting out of town. It was our first real road trip with the trailer and Kip in tow. The trailer lights kept going out but we finally made it to Upton to drop Kip off and were on our way to Red Lodge.
Seventy miles away in Lovel, WY we decided to make a run for it and make it all the way to Red Lodge in one day making for a 12 hour day of riding. That Saturday was the run up Beartooth Pass to Cook City. Nicole ditched her bike for a harder ride on the ridged through the winding roads.
After the Red Lodge Rally was over we headed north on the Montana highways and by the time we got to Great Falls we were so beat and hot that we found a hotel, turned on the air conditioner, ordered pizza, did our laundry and didn’t leave the room until the next morning. Not to mention that we almost ran out of gas.
We made many stops as we rode through the park. One included watching mountain goats and another was by a lake to cool off. In Kalispell we had to make a pit stop at Home Depot to get a bolt for Brian’s kick stand and then we ate at Famous Dave’s.
The next morning we jammed all the way to Livingston and decided we had better stop for the day because we saw a black sky over Yellowstone and riders in their rain gear coming from the south. We stopped at the KOA and got ourselves a Camping Cabin, some fire wood and marshmallows. In the middle of the night we woke to a huge thunderstorm and were glad we chose not to sleep in the tent.
We traveled on through Yellowstone, stopped for lunch at Old Faithful and continued on to Cody. It felt like the longest day ever and we were on our way out of Cody to try and make it to Greybull but we soon turned around when we ran into some heavy rain just outside of town. We slept in a hotel again that night.
In the morning we got up and pushed ourselves homeward. We napped a bit in Buffalo and by the time we got back to Upton to pick up Kip we knew we would be crashing there for the rest of the day. With only 110 miles left we packed the bikes one last time and loaded Kip in the trailer and were on our way home.
When we finally pulled into the driveway we had put on a total of 2200 miles in a little over a week and every mile was well worth it!
